Testing at Rated Voltage Ensures Motor Reliability

One of the most critical capabilities of an electric motor repair shop is the ability to test run repaired motors at full rated nameplate voltage. Running 2,300 and 4,160 volt motors in the service shop is a capability that very few shops possess. Inman Electric runs 2,300 and 4,160 volt motors through 1,500 horsepower at full rated voltage. Our digital motor test panel is powered by a 750 KVA transformer which provides 0 through 4,800 volts A.C. The panel also provides up to 700 volts D.C., with a service capacity of 1,200 amps.

Test running electric motors at full rated voltage is important for several reasons. Rotor magnetic center is achieved only at full voltage. Accurate vibration levels can be measured only at full voltage and mechanical problems do not always show up at less than full voltage. The most reliable electrical test of a winding is energizing that winding at full voltage.

Customers of Inman Electric receive repaired motors that have been fully tested and run at nameplate voltage. This ensures reliable operation when the motor is installed at the plant site.
